A Super-Powerful Shabbat
Weekly message · Rabbi Yossi Lipsker
Wow! What a special Super-powerful Shabbat we are about to usher in this evening!
Allow me to explain.
Though your typical Shabbat is, outwardly, a day like others, anchored in the limits of human time, it is also a day of rest, providing a weekly opportunity to avoid being mired in its vicious cycles by clocking in to an alternate and concurrent G-d time.
There are plenty of weekdays, however, that also swell with an added Divine lightness, such as Rosh Chodesh, the monthly semi-celebratory launching into a new Hebrew month. In this case, though the weekday retains its weekday character, it bears shades of sanctity that are marked with the singing and dancing of the special Hallel prayer, amongst others.
Within the monthly Rosh Chodesh celebrations, there is a hierarchy of importance, based on the particular uniqueness of a given month that clearly stands out from the crowd.
One notable example is the month of ELUL. The month that marks the shift into the unique spiritual potential and excitement that is felt upon entering High Holiday territory.
Now imagine for a moment what it might feel like were the three above-mentioned energies to be clustered into one day! A SHABBAT, THAT IS ALSO ROSH CHODESH, THAT IS ALSO ROSH CHODESH ELUL, all in one 24-hour period?
Guess what? That night is tonight!
Man, oh man. Do we need to install new circuit breakers to handle all this soul voltage?
The truth is that the energy panel of our Neshama is already pre-wired to handle these occasional surplus Kedusha (holiness) plug-ins without blowing. So much so that the day could conceivably pass with its potencies totally unbeknownst to us.
However, as you might have already guessed, my goal in writing this, and in your seeing it, which you must be if you are reading this, is to prevent that, and ensure that you are aware of this unique constellation of highly concentrated Divine flow.
Let's get this party started!
