Tears and Defiance: Why Purim Must Be Celebrated Like Never Before
Holding fast to Megillat Esther and Jewish solidarity in a season of mixed emotions
This Purim will be remembered for many things. Not least of which are the jumble of mixed emotions. Joy ?Happiness? No one in the Jewish community has an appetite for celebrations today. And can you blame us? The tragedy of our people slaughtered and raped by Barbaric animals, is bad enough. Having so many turn against us NOW? Shocking.
The illogical swing of the pendelum in the wrong direction—is clearly motivated by political gain. The empty mantras, misrepresented numbers of civilian casualties, etc.—parroted by young people with glazed over eyes and vacated souls, chanting slogans they literally don't understand, let alone believe. I watch in sad wonder as I witness not only the shutting down of the American mind, but the shutting of its heart and soul as well.
Yet, with all that, Purim is upon us. And upon reflection, this real time anti Jewish zeitgeist, joins only the holocaust, in our history, in accurately mirroring the orgy of Jew Hatred recorded in the Megillah.
So Purim must be noted.....AND SO—with tears in our eyes for the tragic losses, and a broken heart for our dear brothers and sisters still imprisoned by their cruel captors...MUST BE CELEBRATED LIKE NEVER BEFORE!
Just as the Jews THEN, who despite feeling abandoned, and friendless, overcame their despair and came together in prayer, fasting, and faithfulness, so too NOW must we as well.
